据《北京青年报》记者肖赧报道，虽然对于前一晚比赛结果，老帅感到遗憾，并向球迷表达了歉意。但他仍坚信中国队会好起来。伊万还坚称，中国队力争18强小组第4名的目标没有变化。他同时表示，自己不担心失去对更衣室的控制，同时坚信自己在接下来的执教工作过程中，能够继续得到中国足协和球员的支持。

对于中日比赛下半时国足变阵，将阵型由“四后卫”调整为“三中卫”，伊万解释说：“调整是为了加强防守。”伊万对于球迷的愤怒表示理解，并表示，自己会继续带队努力，争取打好接下来的比赛。此外，27名国脚全部参加了6日晚的训练。
